Yddal Nature ReserveYddal Nature Reserve is one of the largest and finest pine forest areas in Vestland County and is connected to Geitknottane Nature Reserve which extended into Kvam and Kvinnherad. Here is a picture from the mountain peak Horga in the reserve, drawn by Erling Berge. The rich forest resources were an important basis for the early settlements in Yddal, which were inhabited in the Middle Ages and moved out in the 1950s. In the area, you can find old pine trees that are over 300 years old and a rich wildlife, including great salamanders, grouse, eagles, deer and the rare orchids bride's spur, cypress as well as yew and king fern. The area is fantastically beautiful and you really get to experience the wilderness here, something you do in other places in the lowlands along the Norwegian coast. Lygresåsen is a nice place to experience the old forest, but it is also great to walk from Øyseter and further up to the end of Halavatnet in the gorge above Midtfjellet, here it is also possible to see golden eagles soaring over the large forest areas. From Midtfjellet you can see the pine forest lying like a blanket over the entire horizon. It is easy to get lost in the forest here, so it might be a good idea to have a map and compass with you. NB: In the nature reserve, there are special rules that apply, familiarize yourself with these before you travel in the area regarding, among other things, fire bans, leash restrictions, do not break branches of dead/living plants, etc. But it is allowed to pick mushrooms/berries for your own use.

VåganipenList Item 3Våganipen is a fantastic hike that is a bit more demanding, but well worth the trip! It is possible to go from Svartavatnet in Baldersheim or from Gravplassen in Baldersheim. Alternatively, you can go up to Heleknappen first and on to Våganipen and take it as a full-day trip. And maybe they want to take a small mountain bath in Fagravatnet, which lies between the two mountains. Both alternatives are well marked all the way up. At the top you get a view of the entire Bjørnefjorden, parts of the Hardangerfjorden and you can see into the Folgefonna glacier. If you are going up and down from the Black Sea, the trip takes a total of 5-7 hours, depending on how many breaks you have and how good your form is. This trip requires good shoes and you should bring good clothes and a packed lunch. Be prepared and bring essential hiking equipment, and it will be an unforgettable hike to take home with you in your luggage!

HeleknappenList Item 4Heleknappen is a great trip that you can choose to take as a full-day trip in combination with Våganipen, or you can take it as a shorter trip. Start at the storage area by Svartavatnet and walk down the forest road towards the west until you come just past Laugarvatnet. There you will see signs for the Heleknappen and then just follow the markings all the way until you reach the top of the mountain. Here you can choose to go on to Våganipen via vidda and Fagravatnet or you can go down to Revnaseter. A wonderful trip that you can go on with the children. Make sure you have good footwear, a packed lunch and dress according to the weather. The path up may be steepest for some, but it shouldn't take more than 2-3 hours in total if you follow the same path down to the Black Sea.

Holdhus stavkyrkje
Holdhus old stave church is located at Holdhus, only 20 minutes from Aarvik gard. The church is mentioned in Bergens Kalvskinn around 1350, but it is mentioned for the first time in a church inventory from 1306, which lists "goz ok skrud kirkunnar j Halande j Rossadale". The old church at Holdhus is one of the oldest remaining wooden churches in Western Norway and is richly decorated on the walls of the nave. The old panes of glass have engraved the names of the farmers and priests who belonged to the church in the area in the 18th century. Inside the church is the Holdhus Madonna from the 1450s, which is the only painted stone sculpture of the Madonna and Child from the Middle Ages here in Norway. The weaving female figure carries the baby Jesus in her left arm and an open book in her right. The sculpture was restored in 2012 and there are a number of mysteries connected to the sculpture that we have not yet been able to find out. Holdhus Kyrkje is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays in July, and otherwise by appointment.

The goats do not get concentrated feed, only Norwegian grain as bait. In winter, the goats receive organic hay produced in-house and bought in. Tveitakjerring
The farm is located on Tveit, on the east side of Tysnes at the foot of Hovlandsnuten. Here, Lucianne makes cheese from the milk of her fine goats throughout the summer months. She makes both feta cheese, steak cheese, hard cheese and soft cheese and everything tastes just as delicious! The trip from us takes approx. a good half hour and is certainly a nice trip to take, because here there is not only fantastically good cheese, but also an absolutely fantastic view over the Hardangerfjord with Melderskinn on the other side of the fjord. On the farm, they have both sheep and goats that help keep the landscape open. The goats produce milk for the cheese factory. In the summer, some lucky porcupines also roam the pasture. The hens deliver eggs for their own use, but I sell what is left over. The garden shop is open from mid-May until it is empty in the autumn. Here you can pay with cash or Vipps. There is a small guest space on the pier for those who wish to come by boat. It is only open in the weeends, but check out her website or Facebook for updated opening hours.

Engevik GaardList Item 1
The beautiful official garden at Engjavik is nestled by the fjord, halfway to Sævareid in Fusa. This officer's guard from the beginning of the 18th century gives a close-up picture of the civil servant's status and position in the local community towards the end of the monarchy in the Kingdom of Denmark-Norway. The main building has its background in the city's social environment, originally with a symmetrical baroque garden surrounded by a white-painted picket fence. The other buildings belong to the building customs of the villages; storehouse, firehouse, castle stove, forge, boathouse, sea house and boathouse - a beautiful and authentic historical environment! Engevik gaard has a beautiful garden and it is also possible to get there by boat. They are open for groups both for dinner service and tours of the stately farm. Contact them in advance to book a tour.

They get the raw materials from local fishermen and surrounding farms. They have a clear environmental profile and are located by the sea in the center of Våge, so that it is also possible to dock here by boat. The restaurant has made use of local cabinetmakers and local artists in connection with the decoration and furnishing of the premises and they are very busy making use of local suppliers at all stages.

Here they can also get health from the goats that provide milk for much of the cheese they make on the farm. By the way, IBEX was local food product of the year at Bergen's food festival in 2022 and won a gold medal in the World Cheese Championship in the same year!
